Coal

China's coal resource base in both steaming and coking coal exceeds domestic needs and exports are constrained by inadequate railway infrastructure. In the next two years some of the larger and more efficient coal mines are expected to seek international equity. These companies will benefit from the injection of capital and access to western management models. The quality and quantity of production should increase with growing quantities of coal being exported to Korea and Japan.

Our multi-client study, China's Coal Industry, will identify China's coal producers together with the corresponding resource base, production capability and cost structure. The study will also describe the administrative structure of the industry and how this is expected to impact further development.

China's coal, particularly that produced in the southern provinces, is high in sulphur and the burning of coal in domestic power stations is a major contributor to acid rain and global warning. China's Coal Industry will discuss the implications for the coal industry of an increased environmental awareness by Chinese authorities
